WELCOME TO ST. ANTHONY'S CROATIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

St. Anthony Croatian Catholic Parish is a community of faith and love, graced with a revered ethnic heritage.
We share our Catholic faith with other parish communities that constitute the larger local Church of Los Angeles. With them we are devoted to a common Church mission, which is to witness the presence of God in our world and to advance the civilization of love.
At the same time, we are a distinct ethnic community. The Croatian Christian heritage is fourteen centuries old. We cherish such a legacy and are indebted to preserve our rich Croatian culture, traditions, customs, values and language for future generations.
In regard to this specific character of our parish community, our primary goal is to enhance efficient interaction of faith and culture. Therefore, we commit ourselves to promoting the cultural adaptation of liturgy. Also, in order to invigorate dynamics of evangelization we are committed to contextualize all pastoral, catechetical, social and cultural activities in the parish.

HAPPY AND BLESSED EASTER!

Father Mate and Father Vlatko extend to each one of you the best Easter wishes. Easter teaches us to choose God’s commandments over human laws, life over death, light over darkness, love over hatred. May the risen Lord guide your conscience and strengthen your will!
Sincere gratitude for your loyalty and financial support to our Croatian parish.

April, 2009 - EASTER MESSAGE

Dear parishioners:

In my 2008 Christmas message to you I made the point that in a jubilee “Year of St. Paul” we should get better knowledge of this great convert and apostle. Then, I emphasized that St. Paul was the most instrumental in having Christianity adapted by non-Jewish nations and cultures.

Now, as we enter into the Holy Week, we will be invited at the liturgical celebrations to reflect upon the two most brilliant texts from St. Paul’s letters. READ MORE

Travanj, 2009 - EASTER MESSAGE

Dragi župljani!

U prošlogodišnjoj Božićnoj poruci, a povodom proglašenja jubilarne godine sv. Pavla, poželio sam da se još bolje upoznamo s ovim velikim obraćenikom i apostolom. Naglasio sam, tada, da se ponajviše zaslugom sv. Pavla kršćanska poruka prilagodila nekršćanskim narodima i kulturama.

Sada, kada ulazimo u sveti tjedan, Crkva nam u velikotjednoj liturgiji pruža na razmatranje dva ponajbolja teksta iz poslanica svetoga Pavla. VIŠE

PARISH CENTENNIAL

At the Parish Council meeting on October 21, 2008 it was decided that for the parish Centennial in 2010 the Directory of our parish be printed. The Directory will include the portraits of all parish families here in Los Angeles and in our local Croatian missions. First portrait session will take place October 6-10, 2009 in the parish center.

HELLO FRIENDS!!!

St. Anthony's will be celebrating its 100th Centennial on December 4-5, 2010. We will have a two day celebration to mark this event, which will consist of a day of kolo and tamburica performers from Los Angeles and hopefully from other cities as well. The second day will be a banquet, dinner/dance, all details to follow in the near future.

To start preparing for this monumental event... we're calling out to all past kolo dancers, we even welcome newbies who are interested in participating, to form an adult kolo group that will perform in the centennial event. We are interested in all levels, all experiences, there will be multiple groups, and multiple age levels. No one is too young, or too old. For some, this may be a one time performance, for others, we're hoping to establish an adult group to preserve our love for our culture and to keep the
traditions of our ancestors alive.

The choreography will be taught by Zeljko Jergan who has graciously accepted the task of teaching and spreading his talent to further our culture.

If you are interested in participating, please email me your name, and the best possible day for practice. We will try to accommodate the best day and time based on consensus. We are hoping to start practice in the next 2-3 weeks! We are very excited to revive this group, and I am personally thrilled to bring my opanke out of retirement!

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you soon!! Please forward this to anyone that might be interested.

CHILDREN'S SCHOOL

Our Chilren's School Mission Statement is a coherent partnership between our priests, teachers, parents and students.

The objective is to ensure that each student develops a firm foundation of our Croatian heritage, nurtured through a distinctive base of knowledge.

Continuing the accomplishments from last year, we have added an exciting new study program about Croatia, our beautiful homeland, a new dance and music class where students can learn how to play Tamburica and sing in a children's choir.

BULLETIN

Time su istinski svjedoci Uskrsa i navjestitelji uskrsne preobrazbe naših hrvatskih zajednica
Zato hvala i priznanje slijedećim osobama:

1. Hvala VJEROUČITELJICAMA: Aleksandri Duvnjak, Rosa Mariji Salazar, Ann Zanki, Susanne Čorić, Božidarki Krešić, i Mladenki Grgić.

2. Hvala UČITELJICAMA hrvatske škole i kolo grupe, Maji Bristow, Heidi Granić i Katici Ban.

3. Glavni razlog dolaženja k sv. Anti je skladna prilagodba CRKVENIH OBREDA hrvatskoj tradiciji i kulturi. Zato posebna hvala pjevačkom zboru, orguljašima (Tom Yeseta, Aleksandri Duvnjak, Verici Mihatov), tamburaškom orkestru, čitačima, ministrantima i poslužiteljima.  više
